Job Summary:
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and performing essential accounting tasks to support the financial operations of the organization. They handle day-to-day bookkeeping activities, such as recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and producing financial reports. The role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Responsibilities:
1. Record financial transactions accurately and efficiently, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
2. Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
3. Prepare and send invoices to clients and follow up on accounts receivable collections.
4. Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, and prepare payments within established timelines.
5. Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly categorized and recorded.
6. Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
7. Prepare financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, on a regular basis.
8. Monitor and maintain petty cash, ensuring proper documentation and reimbursement.
9. Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes, providing accurate and timely financial data as needed.
10. Support the preparation of tax returns and compliance with tax regulations.
11. Maintain an organized filing system for financial records and documents.
12. Collaborate with auditors during the annual audit and provide necessary documentation and support.
13. Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and standards to ensure compliance.
14. Assist with ad-hoc financial projects and tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is a plus).
2. Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or similar role.
3. Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
4. Proficiency in using accounting software and spreadsheets.
5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
6. Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
8. Good verbal and written communication skills.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
10. Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance requirements is beneficial.
11. Experience with industry-specific bookkeeping practices (e.g., retail, non-profit) may be advantageous.
12. Knowledge of payroll processing and related regulations (if applicable to the organization) is a plus.​
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time hours | 35 hrs per week
Working days: Monday - Friday | 9am - 5pm
